After drag racing a turbo ZRX1100 for several years, I decided to try land speed racing and
bought a salvage 2006 ZX10. I figured I would pick a less populated class and not have to
compete with the Hayabusas. After some chassis work, drop-in pistons, intake cam, and mild
head porting by Ryan Kallina at Stock, Mild, to Wild, the bike made 175hp on pump gas. After
melting some parts learning about how the ZX10 ECU operates, and the weaknesses of
single-nozzle dry nitrous, I pulled off the spray and set a few records on motor, 184.7 & 186.0,
not bad for a naked 1000.  Then I talked to Andrew Pearce at F.A.S.T. and built a turbo header
and plenum for the bike. After some fine tuning, this time at MPS Racing, and another learning
experience at the September 07 meet, I finally got the bike running right in May 08. With no
intercooling, the bike made 225hp at 7psi boost, with Muzzy turbo pistons. After 3 passes in the
high 190s, I leaned it out a smidge and ran 200.3mph. Keith Turk walked up to me as I rolled
up to impound and asked; What are you shooting for?" to which I answered, "200", and he
responds, "Oh, so close, 199.7". I am crushed, 3 damn tenths. Then he smiles wide and says,
"Just kidding, you went 200.3!" I was thrilled, it's amazing how much difference a few tenths of a
mph can make.
